Configuring BES12 to support Android for Work

For step-by-step instructions to perform the tasks described in this section, visit http://support.blackberry.com/kb to read article 000037748.

BES12 supports Android for Work for devices running Android OS 5.1 and later. Android for Work is a feature developed by Google that provides additional security for organizations that want to manage Android devices. For more information about Android for Work, visit https://www.google.com/work/android/.

To support Android for Work in your organization, you must have a Google for Work domain or Google Apps for Work domain configured to support third-party mobile device management providers. To configure BES12 to support Android for Work, you must:
  • Create a Google service account that BES12 can use to connect to your Google for Work or Google Apps for Work domain.
  • Configure your Google for Work or Google Apps for Work domain to support mobile device management.
  • Generate a token that BES12 uses when it connects to your Google for Work or Google Apps for Work domain.
  • If you want to allow BES12 to create user accounts in your Google for Work domain, configure the permissions for the Google service account to allow updates to the user directory.
  • Connect BES12 to the Google for Work or Google Apps for Work domain.

After you complete these tasks, you can create Android for Work activation profiles and assign them to users. When a user activates a device with an Android for Work activation type, the device receives a work profile that separates and encrypts work data.

Note: You can connect only one BES12 instance to your Google for Work or Google Apps for Work domain. Before you connect another BES12 instance, you must remove the existing connection. See Remove the Android for Work connection.
